| Member of Parliament for South Central St. Catherine, Sharon Hay Webster is issuing an urgent appeal for clean up and welfare assistance for communities in Spanish Town Central Village, White Marl and Gregory Park, Christian Pen and Caymanas Gardens. | | She is also calling on government agencies including the National Solid Waste Management Authority (NSWMA) to tour the affected communities and engage in consultation with the residents to get the areas cleaned. |
Mrs. Hay Webster said the monies spent from her Constituency Development Fund (CDF) of some $1.5M for disaster relief is inadequate to meet the clear and distinct needs of the poorer persons in the community, especially against the background of state agencies now asking MPs to pay for services from the CDF. Mrs. Hay Webster noted "I am concerned that the NSWMA is asking that the MP's CDF pay for $1M of work to be undertaken in Central Village which was caused by the recent heavy rains." Mrs. Hay Webster went on to advise "Minister Mike Henry has been written to early this week seeking an urgent response to communities in danger of continued damage should these short sharp rains continue."
