The People's National Party is expressing concern and is demanding an explanation for what appears to be a blatant disregard for established procedure of not allowing the boarding of the firearms on an aircraft.

The Minister of Transport, The Hon. Mike Henry, it is reported, created quite a ‘stink' which deteriorated into a quarrel between himself and officials of the airport. Opposition Spokesman on Transport, Robert Pickersgill is demanding that the Minister provides an explanation of this breach and of his behaviour which is unbecoming of the office that he holds. Mr. Pickersgill said "The Minister seemed to have been blissfully unaware of the Regulations governing the carriage of firearms aboard an aircraft. Indeed, instead of setting an example by adhering to the guidelines which are well documented and by now should be well known, he proceeded to lambast some of his own Officials, publicly." Mr. Pickersgill further asked if the Minister is aware of the Civil Aviation Regulations - Section 164 - 1a & c which governs the Carriage of Fire Arms on board an Aircraft. In particular Section 7.4.4.2 which deals with the conduct of Ministers and Public Officials? Is it a fact that the Minister said in the presence of relevant public officials, members of the travelling public including tourists that ‘it is my airport and I will lock it down if my security cannot carry their weapons on board'. Mr. Pickersgill wants the following questions answered: - 1. Did his security detail travel with their firearms on board to Montego Bay?
- 2. What does his Spokesperson mean by a compromise was worked out and with whom?
- 3. Will this not trigger an official investigation?
The country deserves to have the answers to these questions. Contact: Opposition Spokesman on Transport, Robert Pickersgill |
