Opposition Spokesperson on Sports, Ian Hayles is decrying the state of the football field at the National Stadium and conveys the dismay of Leader of the Opposition, the Most Honourable Portia Simpson Miller at the state of the facility.

The Opposition is requesting that the Government and in particular Minister of Sport, Olivia Grange acts with alacrity in ensuring that the football field at the National Stadium is brought to a state of readiness reflective of the international standards to which the Reggae Boyz are accustomed.

This current situation is particularly worrying considering that prior to the change of Administration in September of 2007, the condition of the facilities within and surrounding the National Stadium Complex met all international standards for competition.

The Government is to be reminded that the success of the national football programme and the aspirations of the Reggae Boyz in their quest to qualify in the next FIFA World Cup in South Africa are dependent on the quality and standards of the facilities to which they have access at home (in the office).

The nation expects and will accept no less.
