Norman Manleyʼs 115^th Birthday Anniversary

The 115^th anniversary of the birth of the Rt. Hon. Norman Washington Manley, National Hero and one principal founders of the Peopleʼs National Party, will be celebrated this Friday, 4^th July, 2008, at the Versailles Hotel, at 3:00 p.m. The event, ʽReflections on the Life and Works of the Rt. Hon Norman Washington Manleyʼ is being jointly hosted by Resource Group Seven and the Campaign for Transformation.

The Reflection will focus on the topic of the Peopleʼs Party and democratic politics, as declared by Norman Manley, at the Launch of the Peoples National Party in September 1938, when he said... "It is called the People's Party because it will unswervingly aim at all those measures which will serve the masses of the country. I have already indicated a line of cleavage. It is perfectly true that the interests of all classes of people are bound together. But it is equally true that there is a common mass in this country whose interest must predominate above and beyond all other classes, because no man is democratic, no man is a sincere and honest democrat who does not accept the elementary principle that the object of civilization is to raise the standard of living and security of the masses of the people. If you do not agree with that principle then you are playing with the words when you talk about democratic politics."

Presenters will include Mrs Beverley Anderson Manley, Author and Broadcaster and Dr Winston Dawes, the first recipient of Common Entrance Government Scholarship, 1957.
