The People's National Party is calling on the President of Zimbabwe, Robert Mugabe to put an end to the violence and threats directed at the leadership and supporters of the Opposition Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) and to postpone the holding of presidential elections due to be held on Friday, 27th June, 2008, until the necessary conditions for the holding of free and fair elections are achieved.

The Party further calls on President Mugabe, to immediately and without preconditions, engage in a dialogue with democratic forces within and outside of Zimbabwe with a view to normalize the situation within the country and to re-establish the rule of law and democratic governance inside Zimbabwe.

Opposition Spokesman of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Anthony Hylton said "It is not too late for a genuine dialogue to take place with key stakeholders within Zimbabwe and in the African Union to bring about the prospect for lasting peace and reconciliation inside Zimbabwe for the benefit of the people".
