OPPOSITION QUESTIONS NEW TAX REGIME ON DIVIDENDS |

The Opposition People's National Party is calling on the Minster of Finance and the Public Service to reconsider his decision to discriminate against overseas investors in Jamaican companies in the area of taxation of dividends. The Minister has issued an Order under the Provisional Collection of Tax Act, making ordinary dividends tax free for Jamaican resident investors, but requiring tax to be withheld where dividends are paid to non-resident investors. |

Our Nation is in crisis. Crime and violence continue unabated. Our schools continue to turn out too many dysfunctional students. Far too many parents are absent from the home and do not participate in the socialization of their children. 33 out of every 100 Jamaicans are squatters. The home environment in many of these situations is unsafe and unhealthy. |

Opposition condemns military takeover in Honduras |

The Opposition, People's National Party joins the Jamaican Government and members of the international community in strongly condemning the actions of the Honduran military in its forceful removal from Honduras to Costa Rica of the President of Honduras, Mr. Jose Manuel Zelaya Rosales, against his will.
