PNP 2 day NEC meeting, July 26 & 27th

The People's National Party will be hosting its annual two day National Executive Council (NEC) meeting on Saturday, July 26th and Sunday, July 27th, 2008 at the Inter Faculty Lecture Theatre at the University of the West Indies, Mona Campus.

This meeting which is the last NEC for the political year is used by the Party as preparation for Annual Conference, which is scheduled for September 18 -21, 2008.

PICKERSGILL CRITICISES GOVERNMENT ON BREAKING PROMISE TO REDUCE PORTMORE TOLL RATE

Opposition Spokesperson on Housing, Infrastructure and Transport, Robert Pickersgill,  has blasted the Government on reneging on its promise to reduce the toll rate on the Portmore leg of Highway 2000 from the then $ 60 per trip for cars to $ 30 which it  gave in its role as Opposition, in the run up to the General Elections of September last year.

Making his contribution to the Sectoral Debate in Gordon House on Tuesday, Mr. Pickersgill said that he noted where the Government has implemented increases in toll rates from 16 per cent to 66 per cent beginning in July.

PNP's statement on irregularities

The People's National Party has discovered some irregularities related to one of the bank accounts that it operates. Based on initial investigations, a member of staff has been placed on suspension.  The Party, which is handling the matter internally at this time, will continue its investigations and determine a future course of action based on the findings.

Pickersgill criticises Govt for hiking NHT interest rates

Opposition Spokesperson on Housing, Infrastructure and Transport, Robert Pickersgill on Tuesday, lashed the Government for increasing the interest rates on mortgages to borrowers from the National Housing Trust.

Supporting the call by the Leader of the Opposition who called for the interest rates on NHT loans not to be increased, a measure which the Prime Minister announced in his presentation in the Budget Debate, Mr. Pickersgill stated that the reasons advanced by the Prime Minister were not valid.

Statement, Thursday 10 July, 2008

Declaring that it was the Petro Caribe Agreement, signed by the former P.N.P. government and repeatedly castigated by then Opposition Leader Mr Bruce Golding, that was today keeping the Jamaican economy afloat and cushioning increases to the Jamaican consumer, People's National Party Vice President, Angela Brown Burke, has declared that Prime Minister Bruce Golding should do the decent and honourable thing and publicly apologize to Venezuelan President, Mr Hugo Chavez. Mrs. Brown Burke was addressing the Policy Committee of Women for National Development, on Wednesday 9th July, in Kingston.
